The centrally-located Granary Square was transformed by bespoke red houses filled with immersive design concepts. The red houses were home to conceptual installations, high calibre creative projects and live activity from a host of luxury brands.
World’s Biggest Design Party
On Wednesday 21 September the highly anticipated designjunction opening party took place on Granary Square. 5000 people were welcomed to a festival-like experience which included pop-up bars, street food vendors and a live DJ set by Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor.
designjunction2016 attracted 27,000 visitors made up of 64% trade attendees, 29% public and 7% press.
What was on show
World-renowned spa and bathroom brand Dornbracht created a one-off, water inspired installation on Granary Square. Visitors were treated to a spectacular, immersive experience, including performances by a string quartet.
Dornbracht represents the very highest quality of manufacture, progressive production and innovative design. The premium fittings of this family company have won numerous international awards, acting as a driving force for the developments and trends of an entire industry.
Houzz.co.uk, the leading platform for home design and renovation, was our headline partner for the area, and hosted a series of design clinics and activities from their custom coloured ‘Houzz green’ house.

EIZO ColorEdge are the leading monitors for colour accuracy in the creative industries. EIZO presented the ColourLab, an immersive, laboratory-style experience which showcased their new short film series. Experience colour like never before.
EIZO have commissioned the first of a three-part film series named ‘Living, breathing colour’. The film features Munich based experimental fashion and fine art photographer, Elizaveta Porodina. Shot over two days in Munich and the Austrian Alps, the film tells the story of her relationship with colour and her creative process. ColorEdge exhibited their range and the first two films in the series on Granary Square at designjunction.
designjunction was delighted to play host to Dyslexic Design – an exhibition which celebrated the connection between dyslexia and creativity. The project, in support of the British Dyslexia Association, showcased more than 10 dyslexic designers’ work on Granary Square at #djKX.
The aim of the project was to challenge perceptions of dyslexia by accentuating the positive effects and its close association with design, in a bid to remove the stigma sometimes associated with it.
More than 10 leading designers from multiple design disciplines including product, fashion, illustration, home decor and fine art – all of whom are dyslexic – showcased their work in a stunning temporary curated exhibition on Granary Square. The house on Granary Square was transformed into a spectacular micro-exhibition by celebrated interior designer Ab Rogers.
Innovative design studio, four23, created a playful, interactive installation in their Red House on Granary Square. Using the words of Eliel Saarinen as a foundation, adopted later by Charles and Ray Eames, “A chair in a room, a room in a house, a house in an environment, an environment in a city plan.” – the immersive experience featured a 360 film and explored the relationship between our physical surroundings and our ability to think, daydream and create.
The Red House installation accompanies four23’s annual exhibition in their Clerkenwell Studio as part of London Design Festival.
Danish lighting brand VITA Copenhagen brought the VITA van to Granary square – a mobile lighting showroom showcasing their iconic styles.

Dezeen Watch Store returned to designjunction this year with a pop-up showcasing its newest and most popular timepieces.
Dezeen’s first collaborative watch with Swedish brand Void launched at #djKX, during this year’s London Design Festival. The limited-edition watch is based on the brand’s classic V03D collection, which pairs functionality with Scandinavian minimalism. Only 200 of the black and white watches, which feature a bespoke dial, were created. A number of other timepieces were also on display.
